At FFlocks we believe a healthy diet for your bird is essential! With this in mind, we only carry Feathered Friends Bird Products seeds and seed mixes, the healthiest available for birds.
Feathered Friends seeds are fresh and cleaned prior to mixing and packaging. To find out more about Feathered Friends seed cleaning click here. All of the seeds used in the mixes are chosen for their nutritional value. There are no fillers added to the mixes. By fillers we are referring to the common practice of adding low cost seeds (that are nutritionally deficient) to a mix to make the mix look better and improve the profit margin. Feathered Friends seeds and mixes are all natural. Feathered Friends does not use any chemicals during processing, no preservatives (shelf life on fresh seed is 2-3 years) and they do not use any food colorants on the seeds. The brightly coloured seeds that you find in most commercial mixes are there for you, the consumer, not the bird. Birds have fantastic colour vision (better than ours) and most birds recognize these coloured seeds as not natural. Most birds won't eat the coloured seeds.
Feathered Friends seed mixes are designed to provide a good basic diet, with a minimum of waste.
Seed is a part of a healthy diet. The rest of the diet should consist of a mixture of fruits, vegetables, pellets and vitamin and mineral supplementation. Some human food is also acceptable, in small quantities, such as: pastas, breads and meat (cooked). Human foods to stay away from are: milk and milk products, birds are lactose intolerant and the lactates in milk can give a bird the runs and possibly make him quite ill. Caffeine based products (ie coffee, tea, chocolate, etc) are another no-no. Oil based foods are not a good idea for most birds as they cannot process large amounts of oil without doing damage to their liver. This means that while salad is ok the dressing isn't - pasta is great, the oils that it was cooked in/oils in the sauce are not good, etc. Avocado has been known to be toxic to birds, so we don't recommend it. Head and butter lettuce are mostly water and they just go straight through a bird, romaine and kale are better choices.

BUDGIE/COCKATIEL MIX

Budgie/Cockatiel Mix      This mix is primarily for budgies.  It is also suitable for cockatiels, grass parrakeets, parrotlets, lineolated parrakeets, etc, especially if these birds will not eat the larger seeds (such as buckwheat and oats) that are in the Cockatiel Mix and Small Parrot Mix. We know this mix is excellent, we had a pair of cockatiels live to the ripe old ages of 33 years for the male (Cocky) and 35 years for the female (Corky) on Budgie/Cockatiel mix, Aqua-ViteTM and Complete Mineral SupplementTM.

COCKATIEL MIX

Cockatiel Mix      This mix is for cockatiels, parrotlets, lineolate parrakeets, lovebirds small parrakeets, other very small parrot type, etc. This mix has some of the "big bird" seeds that these little guys will eat that are healthy for them. There are no sunflower or safflower seeds added to the mix, as these are treats!

SMALL PARROT MIX

Small Parrot Mix      This mix is for lovebirds, poicephalus (Senegal's, meyers, etc), conures, larger parrakeets, rosellas, other small parrot type, etc. This mix has a lot of the "big bird" seeds but it is a lot healthier for the small parrot than just parrot mix. There are no sunflower or safflower seeds added to the mix, as these are treats!

PARROT MIX

Parrot Mix      This mix is for most parrots including, African greys, Amazons, cockatoos, macaws, etc. The most common misconception with parrots is, if they like sunflower seed, why not give them a mix that has lots of sunflower in it. Unfortunately since sunflower seed is a fatty seed and all animals like "rich" foods (us too!), sunflower seed is a favourite, but like us fatty food isn't good for us in large quantities. Parrots require a variety of seeds, fruits, vegetables and nuts to stay healthy. Feathered Friends Parrot mix has been formulated with less than 7% sunflower by weight with the health of your parrot in mind.

PARROT MIX (NO SUNFLOWER)

Parrot Mix (No Sunflower)      This mix is for most parrots including, African greys, Amazons, cockatoos, macaws, etc. Parrot Mix (No Sunflower) is for those parrots whose sunflower intake is nil to limited. Some parrots actually don't like sunflower, this is the mix for them. If you use sunflower as a reward or your parrot is not allowed any sunflower seed, this mix is great. Unlike a lot of commercial "no sunflower" parrot mixes Feathered Friends has not replaced the sunflower with safflower seed. The problem with replacing the sunflower with safflower seed is that safflower seed is just as oily and fatty as sunflower, so all they have done is take out a fatty seed and put in another, makes sense huh? Feathered Friends has simply not added any sunflower seed to make this mix.

CANARY MIX

Canary Mix      This mix is for canaries and some of the larger finches, such as Java's, societies, weavers, etc.

SMALL FINCH MIX

Finch Mix      This mix is for smaller finches, such as zebra finches, waxbills, etc. It is also suitable for diamond doves.

LARGE FINCH MIX

Large Finch Mix      This mix is for most of the other finches, such as societies (bengalese), Gouldian finches, Australian  finches, large waxbills, etc.  It is also suitable for mixed collections that include a mix of finches and canaries.

DOVE MIX

Dove Mix      This mix is for ringneck doves and all medium size doves.

Seeds from Feathered Friends

NIGER SEED

Niger Seed      Niger has long been a favourite of canaries and finches. Niger should be considered a treat as it can be very fattening if overfed.

OAT GROATS

Oat Groats      Oat groats are a favourite of budgies as well as most small birds. Oat groats should be considered a treat as it can be fattening if overfed.

SUNFLOWER SEED

Sunflower Seed      Sunflower seed is an excellent treat, but it should be limited to no more than 6-8 seed per day for small birds such as cockatiels and lovebirds. The larger parrots can have proportionally more seeds as a treat, even better use them as a reward or for training. Sunflower seed can also be used with breeding birds and for weaning birds.

SAFFLOWER SEED

Safflower Seed      Safflower seed is another good treat seed. As safflower has almost the same oil content as sunflower, you should follow the same feeding guidelines as sunflower seed.

PEANUTS

Peanuts      Raw and unsalted, naturally the best for your bird.

PLAIN CANARY SEED

Plain Canary Seed      Plain canary seed as a diet sounds well...plain, but for some birds that have a weight problem, this is what they just may need. We have found that overweight canaries and budgies and small parrot type that have a liver problem do a lot better on this seed, without the extras. These birds can still have the fruits and veggies, plus they still require supplementation in their diet. We have seen overweight canaries and budgies loose weight on this diet and live quite a healthy life afterwards.

Spray Millet

SPRAY MILLET

Spray Millet      Spray millet is probably one of the best natural treats that you can give a bird. It is perfect for the weaning bird as well as the adult, but it is not a complete diet on its own. We recommend that you give your small bird no more than 2-3 inches of spray millet 2-3 times a week. This ensures that the bird will eat a variety and not just the spray millet, which some birds would, if they could. Even large parrots like to play with and shred spray millet once in a while.

WILD BIRD MIX

Wild Bird Mix      A simple wild bird mix that the wild birds love. Made with the same quality seeds as Feathered Friends uses for the caged birds. With the better quality seeds and not adding a bunch of junk seeds, this mix produces a lot less waste around the feeder. Suitable for all small wild birds. Wild bird mix will also work in most Distlefink feeders.

WILD BIRD MIX WITH SUNFLOWER

Wild Bird Mix With Sunflower      Wild bird mix with sunflower is the same as Wild bird mix except that Oil sunflower and Hulled Sunflower have been added to the mix. Better suited for feeding in the winter than Wild bird mix.

OIL SUNFLOWER SEED

Oil Sunflower Seed      Oil Sunflower seed is a favourite of all wild birds, especially in the winter. Due to the very high level of oil in Oil sunflower, it is not recommended that this seed be fed to cage birds.

HULLED SUNFLOWER SEED

Hulled Sunflower Seed      Hulled Sunflower seed is another wintertime favourite of the wild birds.

NIGER SEED

Niger Seed      Niger seed is not only a favourite seed of canaries but also a favourite of a lot of wild birds. American Goldfinches, in particular, crave this seed. Works best in a Distlefink feeder.
