What do we board

     FFlocks boards most types of domestic cage birds as well as most small animals. From budgies to macaws and mice to rabbits, we can look after them all. We have dedicated staff that will care for your bird or small animal. The care and health of your pet is our first priority. Our staff is trained to notice anything that may be amiss with your pet. This includes, making sure that they are eating, making sure that they haven't injured themselves, making sure that they aren't too stressed, etc. If any of these problems do occur we deal with them immediately. If Veterinary attention is required, then we can arrange an appointment and take your pet to the Vet.

How long can we stay?

     We do not have a time limit on how long a pet can stay. Your pet can stay overnight or for a year or more if necessary. The longest stay yet, was by a half dozen canaries that stayed with us for two and a half years. We have daily boarding rates plus discounts for those who have to leave their pet with us for longer periods.
     We do not usually need a reservation for boarding, but it would be nice to know if you are coming. A reservation is required when you are using one of our cages for your pet.

Grooming

     If you request that your pet be groomed while it is staying with us, we can do that for you. We will usually groom the pet just before it goes home. This way you can enjoy the full benefit of the grooming. The only time we will do the grooming of a pet when it comes in is when we feel that if we leave the bird it could be dangerous for that bird. A good example of this is a bird whose nails are extremely long. If we don't trim the nails when the bird comes in, it may injure itself by getting a nail caught and breaking the nail or injuring the leg.

Where do we stay?

Most small birds and small animals stay in our boarding room (picture at left). Parrots have the choice of staying out front with the sale birds, or in the boarding room. The boarding room is for employees and volunteers only. This limits the amount of stress on the pet while it is staying with us. Though some birds, especially parrots, need this people interaction. These birds usually do better out front where they can ham it up and get all the attention they desire. All the birds boarding out front are padlocked for the birds safety.      We have numerous volunteers that come in every day to play with the birds and small animals.

Our cage or yours?

     Most small birds and small animals come in their own cage. This way your pet feels more comfortable in its own home. If it is not possible or convenient to bring your own cage, we have cages that we can rent for your pet to stay in. Most large parrots take advantage of this extra service, as it can be very difficult to bring in a large parrot cage for a couple of days boarding. For long stays, it is worthwhile to bring in your own cage. If you decide to use one of our cages for your pet while it is staying with us, it is advisable to book a cage a couple of weeks in advance, especially during the summer-time and over the Christmas/New Years holidays.

What do we bring?

     You only need to bring the pet, the cage (optional), dishes, toys, treats and if your pet is on a special diet, we will need that as well. We supply fresh food (unless your pet is on a special diet and then we feed your diet) and water every day. We also give the pets fresh fruit and vegetables. The cage is cleaned every day with a thorough cleaning prior to going home. We live by the rule: The cage must be cleaner when it goes home than when it came in. We will follow your instructions as to when to give your pet it's treats, bath, etc.
     Check with us before you bring a stand for your cage. Our shelves will accommodate most cages and we have our own stands that we use for the cages if they don't fit the shelves. Please, feel free to use your cage cover when you bring in and pick up your pet, but don't leave it with us. We are bad at loosing cage covers, we don't usually use them as all of our lights are on timers and there are also night lights on at night.

Veterinary Attention

     If your pet is under Veterinary care and you have to go away, we can look after it, medicate it or take it to the Veterinarian for you while it boards with us. If your pet does injure itself or shows signs of ill health while it stays at FFlocks we can take the pet into the Veterinarian for you to get immediate care.
     NOTE: To take your pet to a Veterinarian FFlocks requires your written permission when you drop your pet off for boarding. Without this written permission we cannot take an animal, that does not belong to us, to a Veterinarian.

I need medication

     Medicating a bird is a necessary part of most treatments. If you feel uncomfortable about giving medication to your bird, that your Veterinarian has prescribed, we can do it for you. We have been medicating birds for over thirty years and we are very experienced at treating most birds. Generally your bird would be boarded with us during the treatment period. We can also take your bird to the Veterinarian for a follow up check-up during or after the treatment if you need us to.
     If your pet is on medication, and you need to board it, we can continue the medication during your pets stay with us.
